Yup, you can have a virtual pet on Facebook--great for people who don't want to admit they still wish Tamagotchis were cool. Several developer-created apps allow members to embed virtual pets in their profiles; this one is called FluffFriends and was created by Julie Zhuo and Mike Sego.
At left is a demonstration of how to embed a penguin named "Bill Gates" into a profile, thanks to FluffFriends. An announcement about the new arrival now shows up in the creator's "Mini-Feed" and other members are invited to pet him. Bill is not the brightest penguin in the flock, so all he knows how to say is "All your base are belong to us."
