The day got off to an early start Friday for those who wanted to be the first to purchase the new iPhone 3G here at Apple's downtown store.

Although the phone didn't officially go on sale until 8 a.m. PDT, people started lining up hours (even days) earlier.

Here's a shot at the end of the line just before launch Friday morning.
