Photos: A visit to the Corvette factory

June 18, 2008 4:00 AM PDT

As part of his Road Trip 2008, CNET News.com reporter Daniel Terdiman is visiting a wide variety of destinations in the South. On Tuesday, he hit the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Ky., where every one of the iconic cars has been built since 1981.

The plant has two main production lines, the chassis line and the body line. On the chassis line, workers put together the drivetrain, the engine, and the internal systems. On the body line, they work on the frame, the body, the trim, and so forth.

Here, a body line worker installs the rear glass in a red Corvette.

The plant turns out about 148 Corvettes a day, each of which takes about two full days to build, including the paint job.
