- "Pretty things up a bit"
The volunteer developers of The GIMP have been working hard to develop a polished, user-friendly, and freely distributed image editor. Although the separated palette windows may disturb those users who are used to more traditional layouts, your comfort level should grow exponentially as you discover how pain-free the program is.
One of the most powerful general-purpose image editors around, the upgrades make the GNU Image Manipulation Program eminently comparable to Photoshop. Older features include channels, layers and masks, filters and effects, tabbed palettes, editable text tools, perspective clone, improved printing, and color operations such as levels. New improvements include GEGL integration for 32-bit color support, dynamic brushes, and more options for the free select tool. It even has regex-based pattern matching for power users.
The application provides professional tools that can stand against the big boys without the hefty price tag. Even the installation process has gotten simpler, with no need to download and install the GTX Runtime Environment separately. Extremely powerful and easy to work with, GIMP is ideal for both amateur and pro photographers, Web designers, or anyone who wants to create and edit professional-quality digital images on a budget.

Pros: You can easily alter hue, contrast, lightness, fix red eye, autocrop, or do more complex editing like changing photo background, inserting layers, etc.
Cons: The auto color correction feature is not as good as I've seen in some other programs. I noticed the cut tool also has a few bugs. Overall, the problems are not bad considering this is a free program!

Pros: This is a very nice program that offers a lot of tools and is relatively easy to use.
Cons: The tool box is not attached to the editing box. So you have to continue to task swap to bring up the tool box.
Summary: I really appreciate this product for its relative ease of use, and for the price.

Pros: enables you to edit images in ways not possible with microsoft windows paint. comparable to many expensive commercial programs.
Cons: if you've never used a image editor before, you will have to read the how-tos a little to do advanced editing. then again, you would have to do this with just about any high power image editor.
Summary: if you need to edit any kind of image file at all and feel that your existing software isn't enough, get gimp.

Pros: Take a tour around this program to see all the great features that are on offer. Truly a must for all photo fans.Fantastic.
Cons: There is little to say on the minus side....maybe only that patience is required to check all this program has to offer.

"The best free Image editor out there"
Pros: It has everything you could ask for. Useful for photo editing, animation, image creation and much more.
It's free!!!Cons: The interface can be a bit annoying as it opens loads of windows. But don't let this put you off, overall this is an amazing program.
Summary: This is the best image editor I've ever used including payware. This is a useful and definite download for me.
