Publisher's description of Avant Browser 10.1 build 23

From Avant Force:

Avant Browser allows users to browse multiple Web sites simultaneously and to block all unwanted pop-up pages and Flash ads automatically. The integrated cleaner helps users clear all traces and maintain privacy. The built-in Yahoo and Google search engines enable users to search for Web pages, images, groups, directories, lyrics, software, and news on the Internet. Avant Browser provides options for blocking the download of Flash media, pictures, video, sounds, and ActiveX components, so users can efficiently use their bandwidth and speed up page loading. All opened pages can be stopped, refreshed, closed, or arranged with one click. It also comes with built-in RSS reader. Its similar Web sites bar displays Web sites, which are related to the opened Web pages. Version 10.1 build 23 includes bug fixes.

  • "Ditch Internet Explorer"
Starting from the Internet Explorer engine, Avant Browser adds useful capabilities, such as grouped favorites, an RSS reader, and tabbed browsing. The first thing we noticed upon launch was the aesthetically pleasing skin that came as the default with Avant Browser, but you can choose from among many preloaded skins in the Tools menu. The tabbed-browsing feature lets you quickly switch among Web sites, rather than having to shuffle through several browser instances in the Windows taskbar. If you visit several Favorites often, you can save them as a group and open the whole group with one click. When you shut down the program, Avant Browser remembers which windows were open and launches them the next time it starts up. You also can automatically refresh all windows, or only the current one, at regular intervals. A simple pop-up blocker works in most cases, but it was powerless against some floating banners and other, more obscure pop-up methods. Overall, we found Avant Browser a great alternative to Internet Explorer, with useful features that make browsing even more efficient.

    "Internet Explorer Recharged!"

    by yongtw123 on September 3, 2005

Pros: Avant has everything you would expect from Internet Explorer. Avant is actually based on IE! So users can surf the web without compatibility problems like Firefox! Avant comes with pop-up blocker, tabbed browsing, session saving, enhanced security, etc etc. Users can choose to enable or disable browser features like ActiveX, Flash, JavaScript with only a few clicks. The best thing is that everything on web loads with no problems on Avant. With more features, the recharged and reloaded Avant is a superb choice to replace IE!

Cons: Avant does not fully inherit IE's SP2 features, such as ActiveX alert, etc. One word of caution, Avant does NOT prevent you from getting bad stuff like spyware, adware, worms, etc into your computer. Avant has the same vulnerabilities as IE, so users should still exercise caution.

    "Too bothersome these days"

by Vetta on August 27, 2005

Pros: It's a fine, useful browser with some very annoying traits. When it wasn't so pushy I used it every now and then.

Cons: If you don't want it as your default browser, you might become annoyed as it wants to change file associations and I don't need the hassle.

"Firefox, Opera and IE couldn't hold a candle to Avant!"

by lilaviel on August 31, 2005

Pros: I've been using Avant Browser for over a year now. Firefox, Opera and IE couldn't hold a candle to Avant! And here's why in detail:

1)Personally, the best feature that hooked me is the "Groups" menu. It works well with the tabbed browsing (which is a must for any browswer these days). You can save all the sites/tabs into a New Group that you will let you open all those windows or just one (you have to enable it). It also saves individual pages into a group.

2)Both the google and yahoo search bars come BUILT IN with all the respective features the IE one does.

3)If you can find a faster browser than Avant that's free, download it.

4)It has an ad/pop-up blocker that works well. I found that it works even better when coupled with google's. You can view the URL of a pop-up that it blocked.

5)If your PC crashes, shuts down, restarts, or if you exit the program improperly, Avant will save the open pages and prompt you next time you start it. You can even choose which ones to open, or have it open the pages from last time automatically.

6)Everything like flash, java, animations, etc. will work in Avant. You can also turn them, among other things, off.

7)Mouse gestures (left/right clicking or holding the button down and moving it in a direction) can doing everything from go back/forward to opening/closing windows and refreshing. I only use back/forward and close because there are so many. And it took some practice before I got used to it. But whenever I'm using another computer, I find myself using them it's so easy!

And best yet: all of the features are very customizeable!

Cons: Only one minor thing here. As a new user, it took a bit to get used to all the features and get them how I wanted them.
